United Water
Glynn County, Georgia
United Water’s has a five-year contract to provide water and wastewater services to 35,000 people living in unincorporated Glynn County, GA.
On July 1, 2005 United Water assumed responsibility for the operations and maintenance of four separate water systems (St. Simons Island, Hampton Plantation, North Mainland, and South Mainland) and three sanitary sewage systems (St. Simons Island,
North Mainland and Interstate 95 plants). The company’s Glynn County team provides full service operations and maintenance of approximately 2,700 fire hydrants; approximately 248 miles of water lines with an estimated 1,000 water main valves;
210 miles of sanitary sewer lines; and 66 sewage pump stations (plus other pump stations as they come online).
The contract is particularly noteworthy because of Glynn County’s renowned beaches and irreplaceable historic sites. They include the resort area of St. Simons Island which has a dramatic increase in population during tourist season. As an immensely popular international recreational, business and retirement destination, Glynn County has a lot riding on its water and wastewater treatment capabilities.
Glynn County’s water systems include a total of 13 permitted wells, producing more than 8 million gallons of water per day. The sanitary sewer system treats more than 3.3 million gallons of wastewater per day, and work was recently completed to expand one of the plants to include a conventional activated sludge process.
United Water can draw upon its local, national and global resources to serve
Glynn County. Just one hour away, in Jacksonville, Florida, United Water operates facilities for the JEA. In fact, JEA’s recommendation helped County officials realize the value that United Water could bring to their operation.
United Water provides water and wastewater services to 7 million people in the
United States. In addition to owning and operating regulated utilities, United Water operates municipal systems through public-private partnerships and contact agreements. |
